A large golden Buddha statue on the sumitt. Emei Shan, or Emei Mountain, is one of the four Buddhist sacred mountains of China. At 3,099 meters, Emei Shan is also more than 1000 meters taller than the other sacred mountains scattered throughout China. Emei Shan was the site of the first Buddhist temple in China, which was built at the base of the mountain in the 1st Century AD. From this first temple Buddhism spread east. Emei Shan also listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
