A construction worker inside the Shanghai World Financial Center in Shanghai, China. The Shanghai World Financial Center is set, when it opens in 2008, to become the tallest building in the world. When finished this American designed, Japanese owned office tower will stand 101 floors above Shanghai, a record 492 meters. The ground was broken for this building in 1997, but it was put on hold for eight years due to the Asian Financial crisis that hit the region in the late 1990s. The finishing of this office building, which will be home to several international financial institutions, is seen to further facilitate Shanghai as Asia?s financial center.
