The class is so full that some students are forced to sit on the floor during Professor Sun Zhongxin's class on homosexuality. For the first time in China, there is a class at Shanghaiís Fudan University which completely focuses on the taboo subject of homosexuality. Homosexuality has no been openly discussed in China previously. The first class which touched lightly on homosexuality in China began in 1997. Todayís class at Fudan University is the first class which is completely dedicated to the topic. As recently as the early 1990s, homosexuals were often singled out and physically abused by government officials and police throughout rural and urban China. The classroom was well over capacity, indicating that students are interested in topics that were banned previously. The class is being taught by Professor Sun Zhongxin.
