Groups of patients have their eyes tested during an Aravind Outreach Camp program which extends eye care deep in to the India countryside, where often the need is greatest. The camp outreach was performed in a rural region on the outskirts of Madurai, India. The Aravind hospital was founded in 1976 with the focused mission of Eliminating Needless Blindness. Aravind, since then, has grown in to the largest and most productive eye care facility in the world. In 2007 over 2.3 million out patients were treated and over 270,444 surgeries were performed.
