On January 1st 2005 textile quotas that had governed the industry for thirty years expired resulting in a large surge in textile exports from China. When the dust settles it is predicted that China will account for almost 50% of worldís textile manufacturing market. With governments around the world threatening to place tariffs and trade restrictions on Chinaís textile exports because of the Chinese governments refusal to adjust its currency and cheap manufacturing labour; China seems to be taking the threats in stride as textile production around the country continue to increase month on month. Guo Jing hangs her clothes up near the window in her dormitory room. All the women in the dormitory have to do wash their own clothes, and clean their own rooms. Guo Jing hangs her clothes in her room because some women have had their clothes stolen from the communal drying area.
